The Parks That Made Calgary

A Self-Guided Tour of Calgary Parks

From manicured inner city parks to natural landscapes in the suburbs, Calgary is full of parks of all kinds that tell a story about the city and those who made it what it is today.

This new self-guided tour dives into the history of over 20 parks located across Calgary. They can be explored individually, or you can create your own itinerary based on which part of the city you would like to explore.

Some of these parks (identified as ‘Historic Parks’) are recognized for their heritage value and are currently listed on the Inventory of Evaluated Historic Resources, such as Nose Hill Park, Scotsman’s Hill, Reader Rock Garden, and Central Memorial Park. These selected parks reflect important eras and/or people of Calgary's history. “Other Notable Parks” are not listed on the Inventory, but are featured for their association with prominent Calgarians, significant events, or the development of Calgary as the city we know today.
