Heritage Calgary Welcomes 3 New Board Members

 

Heritage Calgary is excited to welcome 3 new members to our Board of Directors!

At the July 26, 2021 Council Meeting, the following candidates were appointed for a term of 3 years to expire at the 2024 Organizational Meeting.

Angela Chung, CPA CGA

Angela was born and raised in Calgary.  She believes in preservation of Calgary’s history in order for future generations to understand the contributions that the different cultures have brought to this city.  Angela has held various accounting, finance and audit roles working in higher education, government, airline, construction and oil and gas industries.  Angela has a Bachelor of Applied Business Administration with a major in Accounting and Information Technology from SAIT as well as the Chartered Professional Accountant designation.  Angela is very excited to join Heritage Calgary and to contribute to the mission of conservating the stories that built the city.

Doris Hall, MBA, SHRP, ACC

Doris Hall is an HR executive who has a deep commitment to helping organizations, teams and individuals unleash their full potential, particularly in organizations that are experiencing a high degree of change. She has worked and led teams in many environments varying in size and complexity in both the profit and not-for-profit sectors, including government which speaks to her versatility and breadth of experience. Her skills lie in the ability to take lessons from across the spectrum of these experiences and apply them into the current context; that of a leader, consultant, business owner, advisor or Board Director. As the former Chair of the Board for the Women in Need Society for a number of years, Doris led the organization through a time of crisis, coming out of that successfully and having a stronger organization for it. Doris completed her MBA at Royal Roads University, where she was also granted the Leadership Award by her fellow cohort members.  In addition, Doris is a Senior Professional in Human Resources and is a Certified Executive Coach. 

Paula Overguard, CPA, CA

Paula is a third generation Albertan.  Born and raised on a farm near Didsbury, Alberta, she has lived in Calgary for over a decade.  Her interest in history has been fostered from a young age by her parents, who were school teachers.  She has over ten years of experience in financial reporting, audit, tax, internal controls, and treasury.  Paula is currently Director, Financial Reporting at Bird Construction.  Prior to her role at Bird, Paula held roles of increasing responsibility with ARC Resources, Shane Homes and PwC.  Paula received her Chartered Accountant designation in 2013 and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree, with distinction, from the University of Alberta.  In recognition of her volunteer work and mentorship efforts, Paula was awarded a Chartered Professional Accountants’ Early Achievement Award in 2017.  She was also awarded the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants’ gold medal for the highest standing in Western Canada on the 2012 Uniform Final Examination.

We are also pleased to welcome back incumbent director David Morrison for a term of 3 years to expire at the 2024 Organizational Meeting.

David Morrison

David is a third generation Calgarian and 4th generation southern Albertan who has a lifelong interest Calgary's history and its diverse heritage. David works in Indigenous relations within the energy industry. His passion for stakeholder engagement and understanding of Indigenous culture led to his being asked by a prominent First Nation to work for them representing their interests and rights with industry and governments. Having worked for industry and for a First Nation, David considers himself fortunate to have a unique understanding of both perspectives that facilitates relationships between the groups. David has served as a board member of Heritage Calgary since 2018.
