Tess McNaughton is the 2024 Historian in Residence

2024 Historian in Residence

Meet Tess McNaughton, the 2024 Historian in Residence! With expertise in queer and women's history, Tess is dedicated to documenting the experiences of queer women, nonbinary, and transgender individuals in Calgary. Tess aims to create a dedicated queer archive, commemorating overlooked stories of these marginalized communities.

About Tess’ research:

Through previous research, Tess found women have faced systemic barriers and been excluded in history. This gap in history can be seen with women being identified solely by their husband’s name, having names misspelt, and being omitted from historical records. This lack of representation is further compounded by intersections of race, class, and sexuality, which Tess aims to address in this residency. Tess aims to create a dedicated queer archive, commemorating the overlooked stories of these marginalized communities. By amplifying these voices, Tess hopes to address those historically silenced to ensure these narratives are acknowledged and preserved.
