Evaluated as a City Wide Historic Resource
St. John Elementary School, built in 1916, has symbolic value as representative of a period of rapid expansion in Calgary’s Separate School district in the 1910s (Symbolic Value – City Wide Significance).
St. John Elementary School has further value as a well-preserved example of a ‘bungalow’ school design and as a handsome and rare example of Mission Revival style in Calgary (Design and Style Value – City Wide Significance).
St. John Elementary School is also valued as a landmark in the Hillhurst neighbourhood for its prominent siting and picturesque historical architecture (Landmark Value – City Wide Significance).
