June is National Indigenous History Month, recognizing the diverse history of Indigenous peoples of Treaty 7 and beyond. We wish to highlight the ongoing work of the Siksika Archaeology Field School, established in partnership with members of UCalgary’s Department of Anthropology and Archaeology and Old Sun Community College.

They have created a unique learning environment and opportunity for Indigenous students to connect with their past and cultural traditions. The field school, conducted on ancestral land, engages students through a combination of teaching archaeological method and theory along with cultural lessons delivered by Siksika traditional knowledge keepers and elders. The Siksika Archaeology Field School was a recipient of a Heritage Calgary Award in 2021.

The University and Old Sun Community College have created a fund to ensure the continuation of this program. Your donation will help support the Siksika Archaeological Field School in continuing to provide field training to Indigenous students in all phases of an archaeological investigation, while making connections with their own cultural past and knowledge.
