Heritage Calgary is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors appointed by City Council. The Board oversees and guides the organization to ever-increasing levels of performance and impact.
Heritage Calgary is currently seeking one new independent Board Member.
Candidates for the position of Board Member are required to demonstrate the following core skills and experience:
Governance experience – Has demonstratively impactful experience serving in a governance board capacity of a non-profit organization. Understands the responsibilities of a Board member and respects the distinction between governance and management.
Commitment to and passion for heritage – Believes in the purpose and activities of Heritage Calgary and serves as an ambassador for the organization in the community. Prepares for and attends board meetings, committee meetings, and promotional events.
Collaborative leadership experience – Has proven experience as a leader of an organization, team or initiative. An independent thinker, yet a collaborative team member who builds trust with board colleagues through respectful behaviours.
Visionary and strategic perspective – Understands and interprets trends and developments taking place in the Calgary community. A bigger picture thinker who gets above the immediate issues and looks longer term at how people, communities and business will change or evolve, in order to exploit new opportunities and grow the organization.
Financial literacy and acumen – Can read and understand financial reports including balance sheets, budgets and other related financial performance reports.
