As a beautifully crafted example of a well-appointed apartment block, Donegal Mansions, built in 1931, is a symbol of the high-end construction that took place during Calgary’s late 1920s boom (Symbolic Value – City Wide Significance).
The apartment block is further valued as an eclectic Inter-war expression of the Italianate style in Calgary (Style Value – City Wide Significance).
Donegal Mansions also possesses person value for its most notable tenant John E. Brownlee (1883-1961), who served as Alberta’s Attorney-General from 1921-26 and Premier from 1925-34 (Person Value – City Wide Significance).
